Celebrating 100 Years of Heritage:

As The Bullock House marks its 100th year, it proudly stands as a significant part of Johannesburg’s history. To honour this milestone, the house has been awarded a Blue Plaque by the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.

 

This prestigious accolade commemorates the building's rich history, significance and the many stories it holds.

 

Long before and long after the days of Jan Smuts and Princess Frederika, The Bullock House has been a silent witness to countless moments that shaped the city and its people.

A Cherished heritage Landmark

The Bullock House is a cherished heritage landmark nestled in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa. It boasts a fascinating history intertwined with royal ties. 

This historic residence once hosted the esteemed Jan Smuts, a prominent South African statesman, alongside visiting members of the British royal family. The Bullock House was designed by Duncan Macdonald Sinclair, a South African-born architect trained in England.


Known for his refined architectural style, Sinclair created a residence that reflects both classical influences and the grandeur desired by its original owner. The house features a striking two-storey central portico, with tall columns and a classical pediment, giving it a dignified presence.
